About Correios Cabo Verde Services
With almost 160 years of service to the people of the islands, this is a centennial company. The Governor General of the Province of Cape Verde ordered the publishing of the Regulations for the Postal Service of the Islands in the Official Bulletin on January 2, 1849, a regulation that would subsequently be altered by Ordinance No. 170-A, of 1852. In actuality, the General Governor of the Archipelago’s Post Office and the Praças de Bissau was in charge of the Post Office’s General Inspection.
In July 1981, the Postal Public Services were changed into a public business called Public Company of Posts and Telecommunications – Public Company – CTT – EP, in response to the country’s independence and the necessity for development. Telecoms activities were separated from those of postal services as a result of the political opening in the 1990s and the economic liberalisation strategy of the years, allowing telecommunications to be privatised.
CTT – EP was separated into two joint-stock companies in 1995, with the postal sector becoming Correios de Cabo Verde, SARL – CCV and the telecoms sector becoming Cape Verde Telecom, SARL.It was intended from the start to provide the CCVs with the statute of a joint-stock company in order to give mechanisms for a management with a high degree of autonomy in order to address the issues that were already known at the time.
