About Tanzania Post Services
Tanzania Posts Corporation, which was founded in 1994, is responsible for Tanzania’s postal operations. The postal service was taken over by the British once they acquired control of Tanganyika. All postal and communication entities in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanganyika (KUT) were merged under the East African Posts and Telecommunications Administration by the British. Even after independence in the early 1960s, the newly constituted East African Community maintained the mail and communications services. The Tanzanian government founded the Tanzania Posts and Telecommunications Corporation after the East African Community was disbanded in 1977. (TP&TC).
The Tanzania Postal Bank was established before the TPC, although the banking sector of the Tanzania Posts and Telecommunications Corporation was part of the TPC (TP&TC). The Tanzania postal bank, however, was created on March 1, 1992, as a successor to the Tanganyika Post Office Savings Bank, which was established in 1925 by the Post Office Savings Bank Ordinance and became operating in 1927.
